What to discuss before filler
Hyaluronic-acid gel is one category commonly used for aesthetic filler treatment, but products differ. Ask for the exact product name, intended area, amount, expected limitations, how long change may remain visible, and what the clinic would do if a complication occurs.
Tell the clinician about every previous filler or injected material, even if it was placed years ago or at another clinic. Unknown or permanent material can change the risk and treatment plan.
Information to disclose
Tell the clinician if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have infection or inflamed skin near the area, have a history of severe allergy, have a bleeding or immune condition, take anticoagulants or antiplatelet medicines, or have previously had cold sores in the treatment area. Do not stop prescribed medicine without advice from the prescriber.
A typical consultation and procedure pathway
- AssessmentReview your goals, facial anatomy, health history, medicines and all previous injections.
- Product discussionConfirm the exact product, package, batch details, proposed amount, treatment area, alternatives and complication plan.
- InjectionThe skin is prepared and the clinician injects according to the agreed plan while monitoring the area.
- AftercareLeave with written warning signs, contact instructions and a review plan.
Aftercare
Swelling and bruising can make the early appearance different from the settled result. Follow the treating clinician’s instructions rather than massaging or manipulating the area on your own.
- Avoid pressing or massaging the area unless instructed
- Ask when to resume strenuous exercise, alcohol, heat exposure and facial treatments
- Keep the product and batch information provided to you
- Know how to reach the clinic if pain, colour change or visual symptoms develop
Vascular warning signs and other risks
Common short-term effects can include swelling, bruising, tenderness, redness or temporary lumps. Other risks include infection, asymmetry, persistent nodules, inflammatory reactions, tissue injury or an unsatisfactory result.
Rarely, filler can enter or compress a blood vessel. Severe or increasing pain, pale or mottled skin, dusky colour, cool skin, or any change in vision requires immediate medical assessment. Visual symptoms are an emergency. Do not wait for a routine follow-up.
Questions to ask
How can I check the product?
Ask to see the unopened package and Thai-language label, and record the product name, batch or lot number and expiry date. The clinic should explain what the product is and why it is proposed.
Can all filler be dissolved?
Some hyaluronic-acid fillers may be treated with hyaluronidase, but not every injectable material can be dissolved this way. Management depends on the product and problem.
How long will it last?
Visible duration varies by product, amount, area, metabolism and other factors. Treat any exact duration as an estimate, not a guarantee.
